Breaking Taboos: Menstrual Leave at AtliQ

In a world where whispers often replace open conversations about menstruation, AtliQ stands proudly at the forefront of change. We are not just talking about ‘periods’; we are setting a new standard by introducing ‘menstrual leave.’ While the mere mention of menstruation remains a cultural taboo, we have embraced it with open arms. You see, we are not just any company; we are the pioneers who have taken the bold step that no other company in our city has dared to take.

The seed of this decision was sown in one of the organization improvement suggestion gatherings attended by all the employees. A group of girls brought in the suggestion of granting period leaves as they have to take sick leave on their menstrual days and are short of leaves on actual medical necessities. The decision didn’t require much discussion; the management felt it was the right demand from the team.

It was a no-brainer. Menstrual cramps and discomfort can be as debilitating as any other illness, and it often forces our female employees to take sick leave. The decision to introduce menstrual leave didn’t require much debate; the management felt it was a reasonable demand from our team.

We brought in a new policy at AtliQ where our female staff is now entitled to take up to 8 extra leaves throughout the year against their menstrual pain.

Why 8? Well, let’s break it down. Most women experience around 12 menstrual cycles in a year. Now, when you factor in the probability of your menstrual cycle coinciding with the weekend, you’ll find that you can rightfully avail of 8 additional leave days compared to your male counterparts. It’s all about recognizing and accommodating the unique needs of our female employees.

What’s the Need of the Hour?

Menstrual leave offers women the flexibility to work, on their terms, in a way that’s comfortable and convenient for them. Far from reducing productivity, it can enhance it. With a significant portion of India’s population experiencing menstruation and the pervasive stigma that comes with it, period leave is no longer a foreign concept. It’s a vital stride towards establishing equitable reproductive health practices in India.

We understand that men and women are born with different biological needs, with the latter having to face more inconvenience every month. While they give us the most they can, the minimum we can offer is making room for their needs.

AtliQ recognizes that men and women have different biological needs. Women face unique challenges, and it’s only fair that we make accommodations for their well-being. Our female employees give their best every day, and the least we can do is offer support when they need it the most.

Join us in making a difference, both inside and outside the office, and be a part of this transformative journey towards a more inclusive and understanding future.

We believe that open conversations about menstrual health are crucial in breaking the stigma that has persisted for too long. It’s not just about discussing policies; it’s about fostering a culture where every employee feels comfortable talking about their experiences and needs.

We encourage our team to engage in open dialogues, share their stories, and provide suggestions for making the workplace more supportive. By doing so, we collectively create an environment where everyone’s voices are heard, and no topic is off-limits. Let’s normalize conversations about menstrual health, ensure that everyone feels respected, and eliminate the taboo surrounding periods.

Our menstrual leave policy is just one example of our dedication to fostering a workplace where everyone is valued, respected, and cared for. We believe that by prioritizing empathy, breaking the silence around taboo topics like menstruation, and continually seeking to improve our policies, we can create a better future for all employees.
